Lincolnshire

Published in 1856, White's Directory begins: "Lincolnshire, the largest county in England except Yorkshire, ranks with Norfolk and Devonshire in agricultural importance, and is the 13th in amount of population. Its extensive fens and levels were formerly watery morasses, producing little else than geese and wild fowl, but they are now well drained and cultivated, and produce abundant crops of grain, grass, potatoes, woad, flax, etc..."
